For companies with significant sales volume, specific ecommerce needs, and a desire for endless scalability, BigCommerce Enterprise could be the perfect solution.

Similar to offerings like Shopify Plus, and Wix Enterprise, BigCommerce Enterprise is a software package, specially designed for companies in the midst of meteoric growth.

While other BigCommerce plans place limits on how much revenue you can earn each year, the Enterprise package has absolutely zero restrictions.

That makes it an exceptional solution for companies who want a no-holds-barred experience of everything BigCommerce can offer.

But is it the right solution for you?

I took a deep dive into the unique benefits of the platform, comparing it to some of the other leading enterprise solutions on the market, to find out.

Here’s your complete guide to BigCommerce Enterprise.

The Quick Verdict

BigCommerce Enterprise is a highly scalable and innovative ecommerce solution, ideal for companies making major revenue with their online stores.

Though the pricing can be relatively high, you’ll benefit from features you don’t get from any other BigCommerce plan, including limitless sales, as many storefronts as you like, and extensive customization options.

While I prefer Shopify Plus as our go-to enterprise offering for ecommerce leaders, BigCommerce does have a lot to offer, particularly if you’re searching for exceptional uptime, reliability, and customer support.

Key Takeaways

BigCommerce Enterprise is the dedicated ecommerce plan from BigCommerce, designed for companies making significant sales online. Here’s what you need to know:

  • BigCommerce Enterprise eliminates the “online sales limits” of other BigCommerce pricing plans, allowing you to earn as much revenue as you like, as your company scales.
  • You’ll get next-level customer support, with express routing, and customer success management. Plus, there’s support with API implementation.
  • BigCommerce Enterprise allows you to access as many inventory locations, API calls, and storefronts as you like, with no restrictions.
  • You’ll have access to custom product filtering and price lists, as well as an integrated ShipperHQ shipping engine (included in the plan).
  • There’s no set price for BigCommerce Enterprise. Quotes are based on your specific business requirements. However you can expect to pay a lot more than you would on other plans.
  • BigCommerce Enterprise, like the standard BigCommerce platform, still has a higher learning curve than other ecommerce platforms.
  • You will have access to custom APIs, SDKs, composable architecture, and headless commerce integrations, as well as various frictionless checkout options.
  • BigCommerce supports Enterprise B2C, B2B, and multi-storefront business models

What is BigCommerce Enterprise? An Overview

BigCommerce is an ecommerce platform provider, operating on the “software as a service” model. BigCommerce Enterprise is one of the subscription plans offered by the vendor, focused on high-volume sellers, and larger businesses.

It’s similar to solutions like Shopify Plus or Wix Enterprise, giving companies access to advanced features and more customization options, as they scale.

With BigCommerce Enterprise, you unlock the full functionality of the BigCommerce SaaS platform, with no limitations on storefronts, the sales you can make, or sales channels.

Although it’s the most expensive plan available from BigCommerce, it’s also the most customizable, with composable architecture, headless commerce integrations, and API support.

Intended for high-volume businesses, BigCommerce Enterprise doesn’t just give you more features to work with, it also delivers enhanced reliability.

You get a 99.99% uptime guarantee, robust security features, and state-of-the-art customer support.

You’ll also be able to unlock more capabilities to help you scale your business, such as abandoned cart recovery essentials, numerous checkout options, and a huge partner network.

BigCommerce Enterprise Pricing

Like most ecommerce platforms offering “Enterprise” level plans, BigCommerce doesn’t list a specific price for BigCommerce Enterprise.

The amount you’ll pay for your subscription is based on various factors, such as the average value of the orders you process each month.

The BigCommerce sales team will also assess how many storefronts you need, your number of inventory locations, and the level of assistance you need with things like headless commerce management and API integrations.

Notably, though you do get special credit card rates from Braintree with BigCommerce Enterprise, they’re no different to the rates you’d also get on the cheaper plan “BigCommerce Pro”:

BigCommerce Enterprise Review: Features

BigCommerce Enterprise comes with all the features you’d typically get from the vendor’s other subscription options. However, there are also some unique bonuses.

For instance, you’ll be able to dive deeper into customization options for your site, access more API calls, and get premium support.

As standard, BigCommerce is an excellent ecommerce platform. Most of the plans come with more features than you’d generally get from many alternatives.

For instance, on the majority of plans, you’ll get an abandoned cart saver, support for multiple payment methods and real-time shipping quotes.

With the Enterprise plan, you also get:

Limitless Revenue

Unlike some ecommerce vendors, BigCommerce doesn’t charge you any transaction fees (though payment processing fees are still applicable).

However, the company does place a cap on how many payments you can process in a year.

On the basic “Standard” plan, you’re restricted to $50k in annual sales. The Plus plan supports $150k in sales per year, and the Pro plan will allow you to make up to $400k in sales. With the Enterprise plan, there’s no limit.

Advanced Customer Support

Enterprise companies often need a little more guidance and support when it comes to running their website, as there are usually a lot of moving parts to manage.

With all BigCommerce plans, customers get 24/7 tech support via phone chat, and email.

However, on the BigCommerce plan, you’ll also benefit from express routing, and access to a customer success team. There’s also dedicated API support available, to help you set up custom integrations and automated workflows.

Multiple Storefronts and Inventory Locations

BigCommerce excels at supporting scaling businesses, with multiple storefronts available on all plans (although you do need to pay extra).

You can also track and synchronize multiple inventory locations.

With the Enterprise plan, there’s no limit on the number of storefronts or inventory locations you can have. Alternatively, the next most expensive plan (BigCommerce Pro) only supports up to 8 locations and storefronts.

Integrations and Flexibility

All BigCommerce plans support integrations with other popular business tools. However, BigCommerce Enterprise gives you a lot more flexibility.

First, the ShipperHQ shipping rules engine comes built-in as standard, to help you instantly set up shipping strategies.

Secondly, you’ll have access to custom store setup solutions, with the option to create a headless commerce environment, build your own apps and integrations, and make unlimited API calls.

Plus, you can work with an expert to build more unique commerce experiences.

Bonus Conversion Features

Compared to the BigCommerce Pro plan, the Enterprise package doesn’t include a huge number of extra conversion features, but there are some helpful additions.

For instance, you can create custom price lists, and leverage faceted search solutions.

There’s also the option to leverage a dedicated SSL solution, and implement guest checkout options. Plus, you’ll have more advanced abandoned cart recovery capabilities.

Security and Reliability

All of BigCommerce’s plans come with features integrated to protect your data. However, with the Enterprise plan, you get some extra guarantees, like a 99.99% uptime SLA.

BigCommerce Enterprise is also ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and PCI DSS Level 1 certified.

BigCommerce Enterprise Review: Integrations

While BigCommerce’s list of integrations and apps might not be as big as Shopify’s, you’ll still have plenty of integration options to choose from.

You can tap into BigCommerce’s partner ecosystem, or leverage integrations from the BigCommerce marketplace for things like:

  • ERP: Solutions light BrightPearl and NetSuite to help you manage resources.
  • Accounting: Connect with Sage, Xero, QuickBooks and more.
  • Tax: Leverage Alvara tax solutions to identify tax compliance requirements.
  • Point of sale: Connect BigCommerce to your POS solution like Square POS.
  • Marketing: Leverage tools for email, social media, and other forms of marketing.

If you’re looking for a specific integration option and you can’t find it in the BigCommerce app market, don’t worry.

Since you have unlimited API calls, you can work with a developer to set up a custom integration for any software you like.

BigCommerce Enterprise Review: Payments

Like most ecommerce platforms, BigCommerce gives you plenty of freedom when it comes to the payment processing solutions you can access.

I’d recommend using PayPal and Braintree if possible, as this will give you access to some exclusive discounts for payment processing.

bigcommerce enterprise credit card rates

As mentioned above, the discounted rates on the Enterprise plan are the same as what you’ll get from the “Pro” plan: 2.05% plus 49 cents for each transaction.

BigCommerce Enterprise Review: Customer Support

Although BigCommerce has a relatively strong reputation for customer support, regardless of which plan you choose, the team does go above and beyond for enterprise customers.

I didn’t have an opportunity to test the service myself, but according to the company, you get a truly bespoke experience. BigCommerce will give you a dedicated “onboarding” experience.

This means you can work with the experts to compose your store, create headless commerce integrations, and leverage multi-storefront features.

You’ll also be able to access a dedicated success manager, a wide range of partners, and expert API support.

Plus, like with all BigCommerce plans, you’ll still get 24/7 support via phone chat, and email if anything goes wrong with your store.

BigCommerce Enterprise vs Competitors

As mentioned above, BigCommerce isn’t the only company offering dedicated “Enterprise” packages to larger companies.

As the ecommerce landscape scales, most leading ecommerce platform providers are introducing their own Enterprise options.

BigCommerce Enterprise vs Shopify Plus

In our opinion, Shopify Plus is the best enterprise-level solution available to ecommerce vendors. The solution does share a lot of things in common with BigCommerce Enterprise, such as access to a headless and composable architecture.

You also have a lot more flexibility to customize your online store with Shopify Plus, through extensive access to theme and structure code.

However, Shopify does have an edge in certain areas. For instance, it’s much easier to use Shopify, even if you’re diving into the code, than it is to navigate BigCommerce.

The platform is designed to be extremely straightforward, and provides plenty of documentation and support to guide you.

Additionally, Shopify seems to innovate at a faster rate than BigCommerce, introducing new tools like the Shopify Magic AI system.

It’s also a more effective solution for international companies, with things like “Shopify Markets”, and the Shopify Fulfillment network.

BigCommerce does come with more features “built-in” as standard, but Shopify benefits from a huge app marketplace, which even includes specific solutions for Plus customers.

What’s more, with Shopify Plus, you get access to Shopify POS Pro, for in-person selling.

BigCommerce Enterprise vs Wix Enterprise

Similar to Shopify Plus, Wix Enterprise offers companies a lot of the same features they can expect from BigCommerce Enterprise.

You’ll get access to a multi-site dashboard, so you can manage a network of websites in one place, with account-level overviews.

You also get enterprise-grade security, and a 99.99% uptime SLA for peace of mind. Plus, there’s a major upgrade to customer support for enterprise plan holders too.

You can access 24/7 priority support, a customer success manager, fulfillment partners, and even tailored solutions.

One area where Wix has an edge over BigCommerce is with the simplicity of the platform. It’s much easier to design custom experiences, funnels, and web apps with Wix than it is with BigCommerce.

You can leverage the same no-code editor you’d get on most Wix plans, super-charged with developer-built components and content blocks, for faster site creation and growth.

However, BigCommerce has an edge in terms of overall flexibility. Wix doesn’t give you a headless architecture option, and the number of available integrations and custom API options is limited.

You also get more tools built into BigCommerce Enterprise for things like product filtering, and enhanced search functionality.

With this in mind, we’d recommend Wix Enterprise for those in search of fast development times and simplicity, and BigCommerce Enterprise to those in search of true development freedom.

BigCommerce Enterprise vs Squarespace Enterprise

Squarespace is one of our favorite ecommerce platforms for members of the creator economy. It’s not just the incredible templates that make this platform stand out.

It’s the flexibility of the platform, making it easier for companies to create everything from online communities to service-focused websites, and so much more.

Squarespace Enterprise takes a slightly different approach to BigCommerce Enterprise. Rather than just unlocking extra features, you get access to a team of experts who helps you build the perfect site.

For instance, you’ll get one-on-one sessions with SEO experts to boost your marketing campaigns. You can also ask experts to create and customize your site for you.

Like BigCommerce, Squarespace Enterprise also promises exceptional security and reliability, with a slightly lower 99.9% uptime (compared to BigCommerce’s 99.99% offer).

You’ll also get unlimited storage, SSL certificates, and a unique enterprise account dashboard.

However, you don’t get all of the configuration flexibility you’d get from BigCommerce, nor will you have access to as wide of a range of built-in ecommerce tools.

We’d recommend Squarespace Enterprise for companies in the creative landscape, or service providers, who want the help of experts to build their entire online presence, without having to actually hire developers and marketers.

BigCommerce Enterprise Pros and Cons

There are many benefits to using BigCommerce Enterprise if you’re running a larger online business. However, there are a few pros and cons that stand out:

Pros 👍

  • Phenomenal customer support with API guidance, a customer success manager, and priority routing.
  • Comprehensive composability, with custom SDKs and APIs, and headless commerce solutions.
  • Guaranteed uptimes of 99.99%, and exceptional end-to-end security.
  • Powerful integrations and partnership solutions for extending your store’s functionality.
  • No limitations on the amount of revenue you process, or the number of storefronts and inventory locations you use

BigCommerce Enterprise Review: Conclusion

Ultimately, if you’re running a larger business, and want access to a highly flexible and scalable ecommerce platform, BigCommerce Enterprise is a great plan.

Although there is a slight learning curve to be aware of, the solution definitely offers a fantastic experience to store owners.

In particular, I was impressed by the versatility of the platform, and the company’s approach to delivering exceptional customer support.

However, it is worth remembering there are plenty of other enterprise-level solutions out there.

I’d definitely recommend exploring all of your options carefully, and reaching out to the support team of each platform you consider for more in-depth insights into what you can expect.
