Squarespace Pricing 2024: How Much Does Squarespace Cost ?

Squarespace offers plans starting from $16 per month, and ranging up to $49 per month, but the monthly subscription costs may not be all you need to consider.

There are potentially additional fees to keep in mind too, from payment processing fees to domain costs.

Since I know pricing is one of the most significant things any website owner will consider when choosing the right software, I decided to dive into the details. Read on to discover exactly how much Squarespace could cost you in 2024.

How Much Does Squarespace Cost?

Let’s start by looking at the monthly fees you’ll pay to access Squarespace’s software.

There’s a 14-day free trial available, allowing you to test the functionality before you commit to anything long-term. However, there’s no “forever free” plan.

While Squarespace’s plans aren’t the cheapest around, I do think they’re relatively affordable, particularly when you consider the level of functionality you get.

Which Squarespace pricing plan is right for you?

Squarespace is one of my favorite website builders, combining exceptional themes and templates, with an intuitive drag-and-drop editor, and a suite of impressive features.

The pricing plan that’s right for you depends on what type of website you want to build.

• Choose the personal plan if: you want to design a blog, with unlimited storage, create a portfolio website, or run a very small business website.
• Choose the Business plan if: You want to create a site for your small business, with professional email, pop-ups, announcement bars, and more.
• Choose the Basic Commerce plan if: You need a basic ecommerce website so you can sell products online.
• Choose the Advanced Commerce plan: If you want to run a subscription based business, or access more advanced selling tools.
• Choose the Enterprise plan: If you want Squarespace to help you create a custom website from scratch, with unique functionality.

Let’s take a closer look at the features of each individual plan.

The Personal Plan: For Portfolios and Blogs

Pricing: $16 to $23 per month.

Squarespace’s Personal plan is the cheapest option available, starting at $16 per month. It’s ideal for building an attractive portfolio or small business website with unlimited storage. However it doesn’t include any ecommerce features.

You will get:

• SEO tools: Including a checklist to help you optimize your website.
• Unlimited bandwidth and storage space: For all the content you want to share.
• Up to 30 minutes of video storage: To stream video directly from your site.
• 24/7 support: With live chat, email, and a help center.
• A drag-and-drop editor: Using the Squarespace Fluid engine, as well as access to a range of professional-looking templates.
• Basic website metrics: For monitoring traffic and performance.
• AI tools: For generating and tweaking site content.
• Access to third-party integrations: through Squarespace Extensions.
• Audience management tools: To track and engage your target audience.
• 2 contributors: For collaborative website work

You’ll also get a free SSL certificate and personal domain, and the option to design custom merch, but you’ll need to upgrade to a higher plan to start selling that merch.

I’d recommend this plan for simple sites, online portfolios, and basic blogs.

The Business Plan: For Smaller Companies

Pricing: $23-$33 per month.

The Business plan is one of the cheapest options offered by Squarespace if you want to sell products online, however you will have a 3% transaction fee to pay.

While there are only a few basic upgrades on this plan compared to the personal plan, the extra features you get can be extremely useful.

For instance, you’ll be able to use:

• Ecommerce features: Such as a secure checkout page and the ability to sell unlimited products, with a transaction fee of 3%.
• Advanced website analytics: Insights into how users find and interact with your website, to help you optimize your store’s performance.
• Unlimited contributors: So you can give account access to all of your employees.
• Professional email from Google: So you can send professional messages with your own domain name on your email address.
• Advanced customization: With access to JavaScript and CSS.
• Promotional pop-ups and banners: Such as announcement bars for upcoming sales.
• Customer accounts: To give customers a faster checkout experience.
• Courses and memberships: The ability to sell courses and memberships on demand.

Plus, you still get all the features you can access on the Personal plan. You’ll also get access to more design elements and tools that give your site more functionality.

For instance, you can show off products you sell on Instagram with direct links to your store, and use more integrations.

I’d recommend this plan for smaller businesses and side hustles, particularly companies selling very few products. However, the transaction fees can eat into your profits as you start to grow.

The Commerce Basic Plan: For Growing Companies

Pricing: $27-$36 per month.

The Squarespace Commerce plan is the first plan specifically designed for online sellers.

Although you can sell products on the Business plan, the Commerce plan won’t charge you any transaction fees, and gives you a lot of extra functionality, including a mobile-optimized checkout experience.

The plan is very similar to the Wix core plan, although with Wix, you do get abandoned cart recovery, whereas with Squarespace you get more advanced merchandising features.

Core capabilities include:

• No transaction fees: for physical products or services.
• Powerful merchandising tools: like low-stock labels and product wait lists.
• Squarespace’s Commerce app: for selling online or in-store through Square.
• Product reviews: To help earn the trust of your customers.
• Social selling: With options to sell through Facebook and Instagram

I’d recommend this plan if you’re running a small business, and you plan to sell at least 10 products or more.

It’s a little more affordable than other ecommerce options, such as Shopify’s Basic plan, which costs $29 per month (though can offer more functionality).

The Commerce Advanced Plan: For Larger Stores

Pricing: $49-$65 per month.

The Commerce Advanced plan is intended for complex, or larger stores, with lots of products to sell. Like the Basic Commerce plan, it charges no transaction fees, and comes with a host of flexible tools for online selling.

However, Shopify’s basic plan (which is a lot cheaper), does have more robust features, like inventory management.

With the Squarespace Commerce Advanced plan, you’ll get:

• Advanced shipping tools: With shipping rate calculations for UPS, USPS, and FedEx.
• Abandoned cart recovery: To increase your conversions.
• Flexible discounts: With the option to create discounts for limited-time promotions.
• Custom APIs: Such as the Order API to create integrations with third-party services.
• Subscription sales: For recurring orders.

You can also sell digital gift cards with this plan. I’d recommend Commerce Advanced for larger companies who want to take their store’s functionality to the next level. However, other website builders, like Shopify do offer more scalability and functionality.

Squarespace Enterprise: Custom Site Solutions

Squarespace’s Enterprise plan is a little different to some of the enterprise-level solutions offered by other companies. You don’t really get a lot of extra features.

Instead, you get expert support building a site with powerful functionality, collaboration tools, and SEO support.

It’s offered at a custom price, so you won’t know how much you’re going to pay until you contact the team and explain your needs.

However, if you’re looking for a solution that gives you advanced website security, employee permissions, and support from a team of experts, this could be the plan for you.

You’ll even get your own white-glove tech support and product training services.

Additional Squarespace Fees and Costs

As with most website builders, there’s more to the price of Squarespace than meets the eye. Although the extra fees aren’t necessarily “hidden” they’re easy to overlook when you’re planning a budget for your site.

For instance, although you do get a free domain from Squarespace for one year, you will need to pay for your domain after this.

When it’s time to renew your domain, you’ll need to pay anywhere between $20 and $50 per month if you buy your domain directly from Squarespace.

You may be able to find a cheaper alternative by working with a third-party domain registrar, however, like Bluehost.

Other than the domain costs, there are also additional fees for add-ons and optional extras you might want to access on your plan, such as:

• Acuity scheduling: If you want to offer bookable services to your customers, you’ll need to pay for an add-on service that costs $16 per month when billed annually.
• Email campaigns: While you do get a Gmail account with Squarespace’s Business plan, it’s not ideal for sending mass marketing emails. Squarespace’s Email Campaigns service gives you more freedom to create drip campaigns, starting at $5 per month.
• Squarespace members area: If you want to build a community online, you’ll need the “Members Area” add-on, which costs $9 per month billed annually.
• Digital products: To sell digital products like courses, you’ll need either the Business plan or above, or an add-on costing $9 per month, when billed annually.

There are also transaction fees to consider with Squarespace Business (3% per transaction). Plus, if you want to expand the functionality of your store with integrations, there may be additional fees to pay for the solutions you want to access.

How to Save Money on Squarespace

Unfortunately, there’s no way to use Squarespace long-term for free. You can only access a trial account for up to 14 days.

After that you do need to pay for a premium plan to maintain access to your site. However, there are a few ways you can save extra cash, such as:

• Paying annually: You can save up to 30% per year on the cost of your plan if you switch from a pay-monthly subscription to an annual subscription.
• Consider your plan carefully: While the Business plan can be great for beginners, as your company scales, the transaction fees will eat into your profits. Consider upgrading to at least the Basic Commerce plan if you’re selling a lot of products.
• Limit add-ons and extras: Choose your add-ons, and integrations wisely, or consider migrating from Squarespace to another site that includes the features you need in their monthly plan pricing.

You can also occasionally find sales promotions and discount codes online for Squarespace, which could give you an extra saving on your plan.

Make sure you check out the promotions available online before you create your account.

How Does Squarespace Pricing Compare to Competitors?

Compared to some website builders and ecommerce tools, Squarespace isn’t the cheapest option, but it’s certainly not the most expensive either.

I think you get relatively good value for money from Squarespace, particularly when you compare the plans with major competitors.

For instance, Wix and Squarespace both offer the same entry plan for their customers, starting at $16 per month.

However, while Wix gives you access to abandoned cart recovery at a lower price, Squarespace does give you more advanced features on the basic site creation plans.

Shopify is a bit more expensive than Squarespace, with basic prices starting at $29 per month (paid annually), but it does give you a lot more functionality, and access to a wider range of ecommerce tools, even on the cheaper plans.

If you’re looking for rock-bottom pricing, GoDaddy offers plans starting at $9.99 per month, but you will have to compromise on excellent website design and mobile functionality.

Hostinger’s entry-level plan is even cheaper, at $2.49 per month, but it doesn’t have access to an app market, email marketing, or advanced ecommerce tools.

Verdict: Is Squarespace Good Value for Money?

In my opinion, Squarespace is an excellent website builder, with fantastic templates, AI features, exceptional ease of use, and fantastic customer support.

It offers great value to users, provided you know exactly what you need when you’re shopping for the right plan.

I’d consider starting with the Squarespace Personal plan if you just want to build a basic website or portfolio, and upgrading to the Business plan if you’re only selling a handful of products.

If you want to sell more products online, consider upgrading to the Basic or Advanced Commerce plans, to eliminate transaction fees and unlock more functionality.
