The bottom line:

If you’re looking for a great way to give your business a competitive advantage, and potentially increase conversion rates, CamelCamelCamel is a great tool.

It’s not a valuable app for consumers (although I have used it to save money in the past). It’s also a great way for sellers and retailers to keep track of pricing trends, and ensure they’re giving customers the best deals.

After all, while shoppers consider more than just pricing when deciding which businesses to buy from, you’re a lot more likely to convert a customer if your prices are better than the competitions.

Who should use CamelCamelCamel?

While you can definitely benefit from using this app as a consumer, ecommerce businesses can also give their companies an edge with this app.

CamelCamelCamel ensures you can track price trends, and choose the right prices for your products.

How I Reviewed CamelCamelCamel

To conduct this review of the CamelCamelCamel price tracking app for Amazon, I focused on a few key factors. Here are the things I looked at:

  • Value for money: Do you get a good set of features and functionality for the price. In this case, the free app is definitely good value for money.
  • Ease of use: How simple is it to use the platform or app? CamelCamelCamel is very easy to use with virtually no learning curve.
  • Features: Does the solution offer features that will benefit your business? CamelCamelCamel might not have a huge feature list, but the features offered are useful.
  • Security: How secure or safe is the solution? This app is relatively safe to use, and the company commits to protecting your contact data.
  • Support and improvements: How well does the company deliver support, and how often does it update it’s app? There haven’t been many updates to the CamelCamelCamel app, and the support is limited, but you shouldn’t need much guidance getting started.

What I Like About CamelCamelCamel

  • It’s reliable: Millions of people worldwide use this app, consumers, and businesses alike. In fact, the website gets millions of visits every month, so you know it’s reliable.
  • No cost: You don’t have to pay anything to use the app. It’s completely free to use, and can even help you save some extra cash as a consumer.
  • Global reach: CamelCamelCamel doesn’t just track prices for Amazon products in the US, it also works in the UK, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, and Canada.
  • Ease of use: CamelCamelCamel is extremely easy to use, and even has a browser extension you can add to Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, and Opera.

What I Don’t Like about CamelCamelCamel

  • Limited integrations: While it does integrate with browsers, and Amazon, CamelCamelCamel doesn’t integrate directly with ecommerce platforms.
  • Inaccuracies: There are sometimes reports of inaccurate price reports on CamelCamelCamel. Though this isn’t common, it could occasionally cause you some problems.
  • Shipping costs: CamelCamelCamel doesn’t include shipping costs in its price reports.

Is CamelCamelCamel Safe?

The good news is that CamelCamelCamel is a legitimate website and plugin. It has earned millions of users worldwide, and it’s certainly not dangerous to use.

There’s nothing to download, which should give you some peace of mind, and since it’s free, you don’t have to worry about sharing your credit card or payment details. However, there aren’t any extensive security features either.

CamelCamelCamel is just like any other web-based price tracker. Which means there are limits to how much you can expect in terms of security.

I couldn’t find any information about dedicated security features built into the service.

However, I did find out that the owner of CamelCamelCamel promises not to share your email address or contact details with any third parties.

CamelCamelCamel Editorial Review

CamelCamelCamel is a free, simple, and convenient web-based price tracking website (and browser app), specifically focused on monitoring Amazon prices.

It tracks product prices in locations all around the world, making it easy to spot when prices drop from certain sellers.

You can even tell the system when you want to be notified when a price reaches a certain point, and it will automatically inform you when a price reaches that level.

You can also analyze historical trends, to see whether prices usually change around specific seasons.

As a seller, CamelCamelCamel is great tool for helping you to price your products better, maintain a competitive edge, and even help customers make the right purchasing decisions.

Pricing: How Much Does CamelCamelCamel Cost?

One of the things I like most about CamelCamelCamel is that it’s completely free to use. There’s no subscription fee regardless of whether you’re using the solution as a consumer or a business.

Of course, that also means there are no “premium” plans where you get extra features.

However, CamelCamelCamel is a pretty simple app that gives you everything you need straight away to track prices across Amazon.

CamelCamelCamel Key Features

As I mentioned above, CamelCamelCamel is a pretty straightforward solution for price tracking. There aren’t really any advanced features to experiment with.

It’s just a straightforward tool for tracking prices specifically on Amazon. This also means there isn’t much of a learning curve to worry about if you’re just getting started.

As you can see from the official website, there are a few key features to explore:

Price Drop and Availability Alerts

The primary focus of the CamelCamelCamel site is to give you instant insights into when prices for products change on Amazon.

All you need to do is set a price threshold for when you’ll receive alerts about the products you want. The site will then email you instantly when a condition is met.

The good thing about this feature is that you can spend less time jumping back onto Amazon to see whether competitors have dropped their prices lower than yours.

For instance, if you’re selling something for $30 on Amazon, you can set a threshold that tells you whenever another seller’s prices drop lower than this, even if it’s just to $29.99.

Price History Charts

Although the price tracking and availability tools are great, the price history chart is definitely one of my favorite features of CamelCamelCamel.

For every product, you can see graphs of price variations for specific time periods, divided into “high”, “low”, and “average”.

For sellers, this makes it simpler to see how prices fluctuate for your products over time. You can get one step ahead of common “sales” periods, and seasonal changes, so your prices stay competitive throughout the year.

The Camelizer Plugin

I mentioned this above, but CamelCamelCamel also offers companies and consumers access to Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome extensions.

By clicking these plugins on your browser, you can view price history charts instantly, without leaving retail product pages.

Notably, you don’t necessarily have to hand over your email address to use these plugins. If you don’t want to give the company your contact details, you can add the price watch RSS to your newsreader and wait for alerts to arrive.

If you do eventually decide to enter your email details, any price watches you’ve set up using the same email account will be transferred over to your notifications list.

Wishlist Import

Though this feature is definitely intended more for consumers, I think it has benefits to offer businesses too.

You can import your Amazon Wish lists into the app, to automatically track important information about products you sell, or are interested in selling.

Once you import a list (any public Amazon list is compatible), the site will take the URL, read the information, and import products you haven’t already purchased.

You can then track the prices of each of those items from the “Your Products” section of the website.

CamelCamelCamel Ease of Use and Versatility

As I mentioned above, there’s no complexity at all in using the CamelCamelCamel site or plugins. All you need to do is log into your free account, and click the “Your Price Watches” link at the top of the page.

Your list of products will be laid out in a table, with a picture, the name of the product, and a small description, taken from Amazon.

There are also a handful of filters available to help you refine your list, such as:

  • Status: Insights into whether the price you want is available, unchanged, or updated.
  • Price type: Insights into Amazon prices, third-party new, and third-party used prices (so you can see what other marketplace sellers are charging for products).
  • Category: This shows you which category of products your item belongs to on Amazon.
  • Artist: If you’re monitoring musical products, the artist name will appear.
  • Product name: The first letter of the name of every product you track can be turned into a filter option, to help you find items quickly.

If you’re not sure which products to track (perhaps because you’re still building your own product portfolio), you can check out the “Popular” and “Top Drops” tabs on the website.

The Popular tab shows you the products with the best prices in a range of categories. Alternatively, the “Top Drops” page will show you products that have had the most significant price drop in a certain period.

All of the menus and tools are pretty self-explanatory, so once you create account, you should be able to start tracking things in a couple of minutes.

CamelCamelCamel Support and Security

Ultimately, if you’re looking for an enterprise-grade secured solution for price tracking, or a comprehensive level of step-by-step support, you probably won’t get those from CamelCamelCamel. Really, it’s just like any other web-based tool.

There are no real security threats to worry about, as you’re not downloading anything to your device to use the app or site.

From a privacy perspective, however, the company does guarantee that any email addresses or contact details you share won’t be passed onto third-party vendors.

In terms of support, there aren’t really any live chat or phone contact details available that I could find. There is an FAQ page on the website if you have any questions.

There’s also the option to email support@CamelCamelCamel.com if you need extra help with any technical issues.

Alternatives to CamelCamelCamel

For more than a decade now, CamelCamelCamel has delivered a relatively simple but effective set of features to consumers and businesses alike.

The only major change to happen to the site since it was introduced in 2008 was a switch from using the Amazon Product Advertising API to a private API in 2020.

If you’re looking for an alternative, there are a couple of options to consider.

Should You Use CamelCamelCamel?

While CamelCamelCamel might not be a revolutionary tool for ecommerce sellers, it’s a valuable resource if you want to keep track of product prices and make sure you’re giving your customers the most competitive deals.

If you’re running your own ecommerce store, or selling on Amazon, CamelCamelCamel will give you the insights you need for a comprehensive pricing strategy.

You can use it to stay ahead of the competition, make sure other companies aren’t undercutting your prices, and even check the potential profitability of new products.
